We are pleased to announce that in Collaboration with DNA Sri Lanka/Climate Change Division and Sustainable Energy Authority has published a grid emission factor (GEF) for Sri Lanka’s electricity system. It is available here: http://www.info.energy.gov.lk .

This was calculated using the “Tool to calculate the emission factor for an electricity system” (version 02.2.1) (see https://cdm.unfccc.int/Reference/tools/index.html).

What does this mean for CDM project developers?

If a GEF is needed in your CDM project activity, then you may use this published GEF in your CDM project directly, without the need to repeat the calculation process. This saves you time and effort and it also means that the DOE does not need to validate the GEF calculation.

Why have we published this value?

CDM projects that require the use of a GEF contribute to sustainable development in Sri Lanka]. We particularly hope that providing this GEF will help encourage renewable energy projects.
