Sri Lanka NEXT: " A Blue - Green Era " 2017
Conference and Exhibition

Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment (MMDE) launched the “Sri Lanka NEXT - A Blue Green Era” Programme to ensure Sri Lanka’s low carbon pathways to reduce global warming with respect to the Paris Agreement. In this context, the first “Sri Lanka NEXT - A Blue Green Era” environmental conference & exhibition including 5 th Asia Pacific Adaptation Forum was held in October last year.

Accordingly, the second “Sri Lanka NEXT - A Blue Green Era” environmental conference & exhibition is organized by the MMDE in October 2017. Climate Change Secretariat of this Ministry will organize a Dialog Forum to share the experiences on climate change related projects are implemented in Sri Lanka. At this Forum project implementers will be given an opportunity to present their experiences, lesson learnt and challenges encountered.

Climate Change Secretariat (CCS) of the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment (MMDE) is the National Focal Point to the UNFCCC and consequently reporting has to be done by the CCS through National Communications and BURs to UNFCCC periodically.

Therefore, CCS has decided to collect information on completed and ongoing projects associated with climate change mitigation and adaptation activities implemented by the various stakeholders in Sri Lanka. The Forum is expected to bring together the expertise in individual disciplines of climate change mitigation and adaptation, policy makers, practitioners, researchers and donors etc.

PROGRAM: Four day program of the Forum will include technical sessions of presented case studies solicited for the following areas:
Climate change mitigation
Climate change adaptation

Preliminary programs, registration and general information will be informed by the Climate Change Secretariat and its’ web site. Representatives from government, industry, universities & research organizations, education and non-governmental organizations will participate to discuss the actions that have been implemented so far in Sri Lanka to reduce climate change impacts and risk. Audience participation will be encouraged through extended questions and answers periods.

Experience sharing between policy makers, implementers, experts, donors, scientists and other professionals from a number of state and private institutions, NGO’s and CBO’s in the country, involved in climate change mitigation and adaptation activities.
Exchange Knowledge between stakeholders to address climate change issues to raise awareness and facilitate replication and scaling up of best practices and innovations.
Promote and strengthen partnerships among all concerned stakeholders such as, government and local authorities, academic and research institutions, the private sector, local communities, NGOs/CBOs/CSOs, international donors and development agencies.
Identify gaps on areas to be implemented projects and resources mobilization.
Stock taking the implemented projects and ongoing adaptation and mitigation projects to calculate GHG emissions reduction and assessing resilience built up.
Provide an opportunity/a platform for donors to identify the new funding areas and sectors.

CONFERENCE LANGUAGE: The official conference languages are English, Sinhala and Tamil as appropriately.
DATES: 16th – 19th October 2017. The afternoon of 16th will be started as first half of the day will be kept free for official opening ceremony and 19th afternoon will be free for closing the Sri Lanka Blue Green Era programme.

SUBMISSION OF PROJECT INFORMATION: All basic information is to be submitted electronically or as soft copies. Information (maximum 500 words) should be submitted on or before April 07, 2017 through e-mail: Full information can be submitted in all three languages for the inclusion in the proceedings. Notification of acceptance of information will be on April 30, 2017 and submission of full information will be on May 30, 2017.

REVIEW OF FULL INFORMATION AND FORUM PROCEEDINGS: Full information will be provisionally accepted by the technical committee on the basis of the basic information. The full information will be reviewed before final acceptance for presentation. All accepted information will be included in the forum proceedings.
